GIANTX are through to the next round of VCT 2026 EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins after grinding out a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, a series that flipped on its head more than once before GIANTX finally closed it out on Summit. It wasn't the clean sweep the opening map suggested was coming — SGE, fresh off the VCL EMEA Last Chance qualifiers, made GIANTX fight for every round of the decider.
Lotus, SGE's own pick, was supposed to be their platform. Instead GIANTX took it apart in the opening half. GX's attack was so relentless early that SGE never had time to set a defensive shape — ara racked up five opening picks just to break through sites, and by the halfway mark GIANTX were up 9-3 with the map already looking one-sided. Jesse capped the half off with the signature moment of the map: catching an opponent rotating through C-main and flicking him down in a 1v1 with his ultimate up. SGE found a brief second-half pulse through Jamelinho213, but it never threatened the scoreline. The map SGE handpicked went to GIANTX, 13-5.
GIANTX's attack overwhelmed SGE's own pick from the opening round. ara's five opening kills broke sites open before SGE could set, and Jesse's C-main ultimate flick — killing a rotator in a 1v1 — was the defining highlight. GX led 9-3 at the half and never let SGE back into the map.
It flipped hard on map two, and it flipped on GIANTX's own pick. SGE opened Ascent 0-6 against the run of play from GX's perspective — Fizzy tabbed into a B-main entry smoke to deny what looked like a certain Jamelinho213 ace, azury followed with a clean four-kill round, and by the time GIANTX called their second timeout at 0-6, Jamelinho213 was already telling his team this was his map. GIANTX clawed back — three straight rounds pulled it to 3-6, and Jesse forced a 1v2 clutch to keep hope alive — but SGE's sentinel setup shut the door on a B-site push, and GX couldn't find a consistent answer through mid, where SGE's entire read was built around baiting a mid-round force. Two separate 1v4 attempts from westside in the back half both fell short. Jamelinho213 closed the map at 26/14/2, and the series was level.
SGE stole GIANTX's own pick from an 0-6 start. Fizzy denied a Jamelinho ace by tabbing into a B-main entry smoke, and Jamelinho213 declared the map his after GX's second timeout. GX rallied to 3-6 but two 1v4 attempts from westside both failed, and SGE's mid-first, sentinel-backed defense held.

SGE's Ascent win was built on a clear game plan: commit hard through mid, then decide late based on what that read gave them. It worked to perfection there. GIANTX's adjustment on Summit wasn't to out-fight SGE in mid — it was to let them spend resources trying to force it, and punish the overcommitment when it came. That's exactly the trap that closed round 23: SGE burned two ultimates trying to force a defensive stop, and GIANTX had the room to answer.
Summit is where the series was actually decided, and it turned in the middle of the map rather than at the start. SGE's mid-first plan worked early — a round-five double-ultimate read forced GIANTX into a defuse they never completed, and SGE ran out to a 6-0 lead. GIANTX reset and answered with six consecutive rounds to seize control. SGE had one more real chance to swing it back: MONSTEERR strung together a four-kill round and then a three-kill round back to back, but SGE could only convert one of those advantages into an actual round win — the same conversion problem that had defined their night. Round 23 ended it: SGE spent two ultimates trying to force a stop on a post-plant, and Flickless answered with a four-kill of his own to close the door.

MONSTEERR kept SGE alive with back-to-back multi-kill rounds, converting only one into a win. Round 23 sealed it: SGE burned two ultimates forcing a stop, and Flickless closed with a 4-kill.
Jesse's Lotus performance set a bar SGE never threatened again, and he was the most consistently disruptive player on the server across all three maps. But the series was closer, individually, than 2-1 suggests — SGE's MONSTEERR was arguably the single best player in the match and still finished on the losing side. In the end, it was Flickless's round-23 four-kill on Summit that mattered most, landing at the exact moment SGE had committed everything trying to force a stop.
For GIANTX, this is a solid start to Play-Ins, but the Ascent collapse is a real flag heading into the next round — losing your own map pick from an 0-6 hole is not a habit that survives a tougher Upper Bracket opponent. For Eintracht Frankfurt, the loss sends them to the Lower Bracket, but Jamelinho213's comments after Ascent — pointing straight past this series toward an EMEA playoff berth in Barcelona — suggest SGE see tonight as one step in a longer run, not the end of one.
